Pwede bang magpakatotoo?
Have you ever felt like quitting, giving up or stopping whatever you’re doing?
That is exactly how I felt when I drove from Los Angeles to San Francisco. It was a gruelling 6-hour drive with so many things going through my mind.
“Are the traffic rules far different from ours?”
“Ano dapat ang speed limit ko?”
“Saan ako mag-e- exit sa freeway ba?”
“What if I missed it?”
“What if I get into an accident?”
Hay! Grabe! Nakaka-stress!
Ang daming pumapasok sa isip ko ang it is not very encouraging because my thoughts were all negative.
But the only way for me to know if I can do it is not playing the scenarios inside my head but for me to try. Before I even tried, I asked people who have been driving for a long time in San Francisco and this is what I’ve discovered.
Normal speed is 60 miles to a maximum speed of 75 miles per hour.
Huwag ka! 60 miles is 90 KM per hour or 115 miles per hour.
Mabilis yun!
You cannot switch lanes, if you do not see any broken lines.
You cannot stay on the express lane if you don’t have a special pass.
You can’t stay on the carpool lane if you don’t have 3 or more passengers or you will be fined with 300 dollars.
Yun na! After gathering the information I needed, it calmed me down.
Alam ko na ang gagawin ko, when I started to drive.
Yun nga lang things did not plan out the way I wanted.
I was using waze as my guide but sometimes the internet connection was wonky in some areas.
We left at 1pm and had a stop over after 3 hours.
It was barely 5 pm pero ang dilim na ng paligid.
Ang literal na “guiding light” mo lang ay yung signage and ilaw sa harap ng iyong kasunod na sasakyan.
As if my stressors were not enough, bigla pang bumuhos ang napaka-lakas na ulan.
Adding to the hurdles were poor visibility and slippery road conditions.
Grabe! As in deep inside, I was starting to feel anxious, stressed and scared.
I just wanted to quit.
But I figured I didn’t have a choice.
The drive back will take me longer than my original trip.
So I prayed and started to trust God that He will give me the grace to finish this journey.
Hands on the wheel, eyes on the road, alertness and focus were
Crucial at the time.
By the grace of God, we were able to arrive safely with only one wrong exit.
This is what this experience taught me.
First, QUITTING SHOULD NEVER BE AN OPTION
Starting all over again will take you longer rather than finishing what you’ve started.
Second, DOING SOMETHING NEW IS SCARY
But once you are willing to learn and try, you will soon get the hang of it.
THINK. REFLECT. APPLY.
