Just came home from a counselling session with a couple that we have been coaching and mentoring for a season.
When me and my wife met them the first time, the marriage was on the brink of failure and major destruction.
There was one major mistake that both husband and wife committed that broke the trust with one another.
The wife was really hurting and seems can’t find the right words to express her emotions of pain.
When you looked at the situation, it seems hopeless and unrepairable.
But thanks be to God, after that session both of them are willing to give their marriage another chance.
Here are the things we shared with the couple during that night:
THE ONLY WAY THAT YOU CAN MOVE FORWARD IF YOU ARE WILLING TO LET GO OF THE PAST.
You can never be able to move on if you are holding on to the pain of the past.
“Chinkee, it is easier said than done.”
I agree! But it is much more difficult if you live in pain everyday rather than removing the dagger of bitterness and unforgiveness in your heart. It may cause you temporary pain while you are removing it but it will release us from permanent pain.
“But Chinkee it is so hard to forgive.”
Yes, I know, specially if the offence is a repeated offence.
That is the reason why you need to ask God to give you the grace to forgive.
IF YOU HAVE A HARD TIME FORGIVING, DO IT FOR THE LORD.
Forgive not because you want to but because you are doing it for the Lord. Left to your own, you will never learn to forgive. But since you love God more than your spouse. At the same time, we all know that God commands us to forgive so that we can also be forgiven. Just do it for sake of the Lord.
By the grace of God, they ended up praying for one another and forgiving one another.
Three months passed, as of tonight, their marriage is getting better by the day. When we spoke to them tonight, I was happy and amazed on how they were communicating and expressing their love and concern for each other.
That is what God can do to a couple who is willing to repent and turn away from pride. If you just submit to the will of God not to our own personal feelings. Everything can be fix. For God is the GOD OF IMPOSSIBLE.
THINK. REFLECT. APPLY.
How is your relationship with your partner or spouse lately?
Are you in good terms?
Have you allowed pride to set in and take resident in your heart?
Don’t you think it is time for you to move on and let go of the past?
Are you willing to ask God to heal the pain in your heart?
If you are ready, please pray this simple prayer with me.
“Heavenly Father, I am hurting and the feeling of pain is so overwhelming; I do not know how to contain it. I do not feel like forgiving but now I realised that I need to let go in order for me to move on. I know I have pride in my life, so please teach me to forgive so that I can be free from this pain. Teach me to on how I can move on from this bitter past. Heal my heart and change my mind, so that I can be able to have a fresh start in my life. In Jesus name I pray, amen.”
